First Museum of the Ex-Libris in Argentina

created by Xylon Argentina

The Museum of the Ex-Libris has been created based on the spirit of what was the Museum of the Xylography of La Plata’s engraver Edgardo Antonio Vigo. Our society created in 1991, is based on the education and the popularization of the engraving technique, allowing to know its development and its workshipers. Xylon Argentina, born under the necessity of opening new channels, has been intruded in non habitual places of exhibition, approaching its cultural contribution to the most lacking ambits.

This Museum of the Ex-Libris plans to respect the same parameters of Edgardo Vigo idea. An alive and useful Museum.

The print, its image, the life of their workshipers, those are enough elements to contribute with different personal experiences to different social nuclei, in a modest pretense of opening new possibilities of direct contact with the culture.

It doesn't neither scorn to be harbored in the traditional ambits. Its attitude is that of non being stingy with its contribution to any social estate, continuing permanently the practice of the bases that have given foundation to the creation of our society. Without a doubt these are different necessities of information, but ultimately, they are empty spaces to fill.

To open those new communication channels it has been worth of non conventional elements that allow to instrument its dynamic action, such as “MOBILE BOXES” whose content varies according to the different necessities and that take in its interior, small exhibitions of quick assembly.  With a simple element of sustentation (a lectern, a blackboard, a salient where to hang) it settles the traveling sample with identical simplicity to that of a fair post.

Small national panoramas or didactic samples of the development of the own technique or also international historical chronologies, are some of the so many contributions that  give coherence to the content of each box.

The loan to parallel institutions (educational, cultural, sport, etc.), or directly to the interested " families ", speed up and enrich the main purpose that frames to the Museum from its foundation: to arrive and to show.

The Museum lacks of a fixed housing, although its cultural equipment is preserved in a local, but, when transporting its collections it moves, in constant form its home: it is in the place where momentarily its material is exhibited or one of its mobile boxes is presented.

The priority of its to work has been to escape from the classic confinements of the institutions that atomize the art. At ten years of the foundation of Xylon Argentina, and three of G.A.D.E.L, it is really a modest pride, to continue sustaining the principles for which it became necessary to give it life.

The Museum is manifested In the presence of the works, donated by their authors or gotten based on the exchange, and it channels the circulation of the creations of the engraving practitioners.

Each program presented sums up in this way a modest cultural work of community diffusion.
